The mission of Women’s March Florida is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. Women’s March Florida is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists & organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events. We are committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.
On January 12, 2022, during the first week of our Florida legislative session, one thousand Floridians will gather at the Florida Capitol to demand that legislators protect reproductive freedom.
Women's March Florida as part of the Floridians for Reproductive Freedom coalition is mobilizing to Tallahassee on January 12th to demand that our reproductive rights remain in tact in Florida. We will converge at the Capitol and demand that this legislature respect Florida's state constitutional Right to Privacy and vote down on any Texas or Mississippi style bans, the former having already been filed.
We have always fought for the ability to create families on our terms and sustain healthy, thriving communities. Reproductive freedom is a struggle for access to education, affordable housing, a safe environment, freedom from violence, and the full scope of healthcare– including access to safe and legal abortion care, regardless of income, race, age, gender identity, or immigration status.
Although attacks on our reproductive care is not new, year after year legislators pass more local, statewide, and federal policies restricting care and limiting our ability to determine what’s best for our bodies. On May 2021, Texas signed into law a six-week ban (the most restrictive ban in the nation) and we currently await decisions on burdensome anti-abortion laws from our majority conservative U.S. Supreme Court. Our Florida legislature took the unpopular but predictable step to file a copycat version of Texas’ SB 8. We expect more legislation to be filed this session that restricts care and further criminalizes and disenfranchises our communities.
Our state legislature is poised to pass backwards anti-abortion legislation that will effectively criminalize abortion in Florida. We're going to Tallahassee at the start of session to put a stop to it. DONATE to the fight; REGISTER to join us!
