Press releases & Official statements
March 10, 2018 Statement regarding our support of our Jewish brothers and sisters and our zero tolerance towards anti semitism.
Women's March Florida is a volunteer run 501c4 led by women from across Florida. We are not affiliated with the national Women’s March, Inc. which is a separate legal entity. We share a name and branding because we are both part of a movement that grew from the same moment. We stand firmly with and for impacted communities and strive to seek equity and justice in our grassroots based work. We unequivocally stand by the Unity Principles, and against any and all forms of anti-semitism, anti-blackness, islamophobia, transphobia, homophobia, or gender based hate.
----- Women's March Florida Expanded Statement. There is no room for anti-semitism in this movement Women’s March Florida believes that no one person or group of people owns our Movement but that it is defined by the work of our collective femme agenda. We are disappointed in the National response to the condoning of Louis Farrakhan who espouses misogyny, homophobia and anti-Semitism. But we will not abandon the Movement – we will fight for it. Women’s March Florida, Inc. is an independent non-profit organization with our own Board of Directors and leadership committees. All fundraising dollars go to the programs we run and the communities we serve. Our power to steer the Movement lies in the work that we do on the ground. We believe that the silence in the face of anti-Semitism in social justice spaces is reflective of our society and we feel called to make Jewish hate a focus of Women’s March Florida. We will be hosting a state-wide educational series that focuses on why Jewish History requires us to be vigilant about stopping anti-Semitism in its tracks. "Antisemitism must be eradicated for our collective liberation. Solidarity among Jews and all other groups targeted by oppression will come when we forge the deep, trusting relationships that emerge through shared struggle and a visceral understanding of our mutual interest in defeating the forces of white supremacy and creating a world where all people are free.” JFREJ (Jews for Racial and Economic Justice) |
